Covering the work of Resonance Research Institute.

This page is for journalists, podcasters, conference organizers, and collaborators who want background, talking points, and visuals for stories about trauma, music, and human-centered AI.

Institute Overview

Short Institute Description

Resonance Research Institute is an Alabama-based research organization exploring how EEG, music, and artificial intelligence can support trauma recovery—especially for veterans. Founded by a combat veteran, trauma therapist, and AI researcher, the Institute develops therapist-in-the-loop tools that translate brain signals into color, sound, and clinically useful insight.

Our work includes EEG-powered chromatic visualizations, an adaptive music engine that responds to a client’s nervous system in real time, and ethically grounded AI tools for clinicians.

Founder Bio (short)

Thomas J. Lane, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker, combat veteran, and AI PhD student. His work sits at the intersection of trauma therapy, music, and machine learning. After years of hearing veterans say, “I can’t talk about it,” he began building systems that let the nervous system speak directly—through brainwaves, color, and sound.

At Resonance Research Institute, Thomas leads the development of EEG-guided music interventions and therapist-in-the-loop AI tools designed to deepen, not replace, human connection in care.

Assets & Talking Points

Key Topics

  • • Why traditional talk therapy can be insufficient for many veterans with PTSD.
  • • How EEG can be used in low-intensity, trauma-informed ways outside of hospital settings.
  • • The concept of translating brainwaves into real-time chromatic visualizations.
  • • Adaptive music as a tool for grounding and regulation, not just relaxation.
  • • Therapist-in-the-loop AI vs. “AI therapist” hype—and why the distinction matters.
  • • Ethical considerations when combining trauma, biometrics, and machine learning.

Assets (by request)

  • • High-resolution photos of the founder and EEG/music setup.
  • • Logo files (dark/light, horizontal/stacked).
  • • Short and long-form bios.
  • • One-sheet summary of current research projects.
  • • Diagrams of the adaptive music engine and clinical workflow.
